Lithuanian Schoolchildren Song Festival 04-08 July in Vilnius

Song and dance celebrations are a unique social phenomenon originated in the Baltic states. It is one of the most important ways of expressing and maintaining a cultural identity of a nation, and one of the most important festivals for schoolchildren in the whole country.

4th July, Wednesday


13.00 Opening of exhibition of the work art of schoolchildren. The Parliament building.


 

5th July, Thursday

6th July, Friday. The State Day

19.00 Song Day at Vingis Park.

The youngest performers in the song day night concert in Vingis Park will start their show with the song "Mano vardas – Lietuva" (My name is Lithuania). That is Lithuania through their childish eyes. It gets mature through the entire programme, blooms in new colours with the song, gets filled with new topics, and bursts powerfully with the final song "Mūsų vardas – LIETUVA" (Our name is Lithuania) performed by the combined choir. On this day, after shows of girls, boys and mixed choirs, as well as reed orchestra, a spectacular singing of the "Tautiška giesmė" (National Song, the national anthem of Lithuania) will take place at 21.00. Everyone will be welcome for a tour around Vilnius. A variety of Lithuanian patriotic songs will be sung together with the reed orchestra. (Ticket price 18 Lt, purchase ticket at www.Tiketa.com)

Dance celebration "Laiko vaikai" (Children of time) at Vilnius Siemens arena (Ozo g. 14).

8th July, Sunday

21.00 Welcome event for the ensembles at Kalnu Park

22.00 -24.00 Ensemble night "Tai gražiai, gražiai mane augino" (So nicely, so nicely was I raised).

Traditional folklore ensembles, folk instruments, kanklės (a chordophone instrument), reed and panpipe ensembles, vocal groups, choirs and many other artists will perform on stage in the Kalnu parkas (Park of Hills)! (Ticket prices 13, 18 Lt, purchase ticket at www.Tiketa.lt)
