Lithuania has long history and capital was moving along with the ruling power. The most ancient known Lithuanian capital was Kernave - untill 13th century there was big settlement here located on 4 mounds facing River Neris. In 14th century Trakai became residence for Lithuanian Grand Dukes. Grand Duke Gediminas settled Vilnius in 1323 and the capital moved to the new residence where it is until today. Kaunas was temporary capital of Lithuania between World War I and World War II when Vilnius was occupied and temporarily outside frontiers of Lithuania.
This tour offers a unique opportunity to visit all historical capitals of Lithuania and get acquainted with the heritage, nature and modern life of Lithuania.
Day 1
Arrival to Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania.

Afternoon walking city tour shows off the Old Town of Vilnius with its main historical and architectural monuments including the Cathedral, the Bishop’s Palace (now the Presidential Palace), a visit to Gediminas Castle, Vilnius University, the Gothic corner with St Anne and Bernardine’ s Churches and the Gates of Dawn.
Day 2
Morning departure to Kaunas.
En route - tour of Trakai, the former capital of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, including visit to the 15th century red-brick Trakai castle, situated amidst the lakes. Today the insular castle of Trakai houses an exhibition on prehistoric findings and the 17th-18th century applied art, the way of life of the Lithuanian Grand Dukes, and the Karaites, a Judaistic sect brought by grand Duke Vytautas from the Crimea.
Continue with visit to Kernave, the latest Lithuanian addendum to the UNESCO World Heritage List - the old Lithuanian capital from the 13th century. It is known among the locals as a Lithuanian Troy testifying to the country’s 13th-14th century history. The site is a complex ensemble of archaeological properties, encompassing the town of Kernave, forts, some unfortified settlements, burial sites and other archaeological, historical and cultural monuments.

Day 3
Tour of Kaunas, the second largest town of the country and the capital of pre- war Lithuania. City tour includes the Old Town of Kaunas with its St George's Church, Kaunas Castle built at the confluence of the Nemunas and the Neris rivers, the courtyard of the Theological seminary, the Town Hall Square surrounded by former 16th - 18th century merchants’ dwelling houses and baroque churches - the Jesuit Church and the Cathedral, the Church of Vytautas dating back to the 14th century and the Perkunas (Thunder) House (no visits inside); a walk on the central street - Freedom avenue, visits to Ciurlionis Picture Gallery and to one of the most impressive architectural monument in Baroque style in Northern Europe - Pazaislis Monastery set in a picturesque surroundings in the premises of Kaunas.
Late afternoon departure to Vilnius for overnight.
